Nadia Azzi
![]() Thirteen-year old Nadia Azzi discovered her passion for music at an early age. Born in Dunedin, FL to Japanese-Lebanese parents, Nadia began playing the piano at the age of five. She combines with her versatile artistry as a soloist, chamber musician, and even as a collaborative artist. Nadia is the recipient of top prizes in numerous competitions at state, national, and international levels. Most recently, she became the Grand Prize Winner at the 2012 Crescendo International Competition in NJ immediately following her 1st prize at the 16th Walgreens National Concerto Competition in the Open Junior Piano Category in Highwood, IL on December 30, 2011. In May 2011, she was awarded both the 1st prize in the Overall and ART New Music Award at the New Music National Young Artist Competition in Chicago, IL. She also received the 1st prize in the Early Music Open Junior Category at the 15th Walgreens National Concerto Competition in December 2010. She was the youngest winner in the 2010 Orfeo International Music Competition in Italy, Gold Medalist at the 2012 and 2010 AADGT "Passion of Music" International Music Festival, and was also the recipient of the 2010 Ruth B. Lockmiller Memorial Scholarship Award. At the age of 11, Nadia made her New York City debut at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as well as the Steinway Hall. Following engagements of note include her European debut at the Teatro Communale in Vipiteno, Italy and her orchestral debut in June 2011 performing with the Boston Neo-politan Orchestra in Cambridge, MA under conductor Jon Ceander Mitchell. In December 2011, she made her Canadian debut at the Salle Claude-Champagne in the University of Montreal as a featured pianist in the “Grand Concert de Noel”. In February 2012, she returned to perform at Carnegie Hall. In July 2012, Nadia will make her Newport Music Festival debut in Rhode Island, and in March 2013, she will perform Mozart Concerto No. 27 with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra under conductor Kirk Muspratt. In October 2011, Nadia was featured exclusively on the “Impromptu” program of 98.7WFMT Chicago. She also performed a full solo recital at the New Music School of Chicago presented by the STIM.U.LI Music Series. Her Canadian debut was heard on Radio Canada International in December 2011. Nadia has collaborated with numerous instrumentalists in chamber groups and for the Pinellas Youth Symphony, Serenade Strings, and Bonnie Lads & Lassies Chorale. Having begun violin lessons at age of 10, she has become the Concertmaster in the 2011-2012 and 2009-2010 All-County Orchestra as well as the Assistant Concertmaster in the 2012 All-State Orchestra. Fluent in Japanese and English, she has excelled in many areas. Her academic achievements include a bronze award at the Fukui Prefecture Japanese Calligraphy Competition, MathMovesU Scholarship, Math P.R.I.D.E. Award, and being chosen to be among the most academically gifted seventh graders at the 2011 Duke University Talent Identification Program. She is currently a member of National Junior Honors Society. Nadia began playing the piano at the age of five under the tutelage of Kinuyo Engelbrecht. She currently studies piano with Leonidas Lipovetsky and Dr. Grigorios Zamparas, and violin with Lei Liu. Nadia studies under Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky of The Juilliard School at the Aspen Music Festival and School.
